Meet Helen

“Photography is more than a medium for factual communication of ideas. It is a creative art.” ~Ansel Adams

Helen Makadia, Photographer

As a child, I would visit Yosemite on family vacations and school trips and would spend hours exploring Ansel Adams books in awe of his captures of this awesome natural attraction. His work taught me that photography not only commemorates the moment, the details, and the facts — it truly is the creation of art.  Through the creation of art, his ability to tell a story through his images taught me that this should be an essential part of my photography.

I view myself as a storyteller through my imagery, resulting in a natural, classic and timeless end product.  When capturing images and creating art, my goal is to tell a story through images.  To tell a story, I must get to know my subject, be it be people {individuals, couples, families, babies} or a still life object {endless possibilities}, the goal is the same.  The creative process of getting to know you is essential and important for both of us to be able to love and treasure the finished product now and for time to come.

Born and raised in Southern California, I consider myself a West Coast transplant, calling Massachusetts my home state for many years now. When I am not behind the camera, I am spending time with family – my husband and my two kids, Sofia and Julian. We love to vacation on Cape Cod and its never a dull moment in our home!

I have a B.A. from Wellesley College and spent ten years in business and finance before pursing photography as a business. I chose to explore my passion for photography as a career by receiving formal training at Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts. I continue to further my education through industry workshops and conferences.
