Newborn Baby Boy D

Baby Boy D’s mother contacted me when he was 11 days old, in search of newborn photography.  Luckily I was able fit him in the schedule and photograph him two days later, at 13 days old.  He was beginning to be more awake, completely normal expected for a baby his age.  We were able to get him to sleep for us long enough to get some cute sleepy shots and with mommy.

In Denial of Fall | Fine Art Friday

The end of summer can be a difficult time for those who love Summer. I do love Summer, but I also love Fall. The crisp air replaces humid and thick air, the green leaves turn to beautiful colors, and a cozy sweater becomes part of the daily wardrobe. When the crisp air days turn into nights with frostbite, I think I will turn back to this image from Cape Cod this summer and probably say something to the effect that I can’t wait for next Summer.

    Enjoy!

    Until next time,

    Helen

      A Day in the Life of . . .

On July 15th, I joined several of my Etsy colleagues who are part of Female Photographers of Etsy (fpoe) in a Day in the Life challenge.  For purposes of this challenge I used my Canon 5D Mark III coupled with the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens.  I found this to be a good combination to be discrete when capturing images in public.  For future challenges, I may want to try a different lens and even an iPhone.

This challenge was supposed to result in captures of what my typical day is like.  I have learned, though, that no two days are alike, so it was no surprise to me as I looked through my images to share, that my day was very Sofia focused.  So this is how my Monday turned out.

Mondays I spend with my almost 2 year old Sofia.  This particular Monday was the beginning of what felt like a never ending heat wave.  After breakfast, we made our way over to our public library and picked out books to check out.  On our way home we stopped at Trader Joe’s for a few things, and most importantly stickers.  After a quick lunch it was nap time for Sofia, so I was able to sit down at my desk and do some work for a few hours.  We weren’t the only ones who were hot that day – our 15 year old cat, Ally, was as well.  Unfortunately, she couldn’t join us at the pool to cool off.  Dinner was quick and we ended our day playing outside, in the sprinklers, until Daddy came home and took over for bath.  A successful Monday.

This was a fantastic challenge and I am looking forward to another one in the near future.

      Until next time,

      Helen

Summer is Slipping By … Our January Vacation

It seems like yesterday it was April and those of us in New England were complaining about the weather – the rain, the cold, the snow – and now its mid-July and of course we are all complaining about the heat waves and humidity.  I figured why not go through the months and pull out some personal photos to share.

In January we were lucky enough to escape the cold to the Turks & Caicos islands, truly a beautiful place.  Sofia really enjoyed her time there.  Below I’ve put together a small sampling of our time there.  As Sofia gets older, I find it even more important to take photos of her, edit them and actually print them out.   Photos generally tell a story themselves so I will leave narration to a minimum.

The sand and beaches of Turks & Caicos are truly one of a kind.  The finest sand your feet will experience and the water is so crystal clear, very few beaches compare.  Sofia was quick to inspect the conditions when we arrived.Sofia lounging on a beach chair.  She did this very well!

Sofia loves the camera and wants to see immediately what has been captured.  Quick snapshots are when I get Sofia’s “true” colors.  A less than perfect picture, with clutter all around, but perfect because it captures her stare so well.

A few sights we saw from our time there.  We cannot wait to go back.

        Until next time,

        Helen

Eli & Rose Married [full photo share]

I recently wrote about Eli and Rose’s beautiful wedding (you can read that post here) and am so excited to share even more images with you.  As you can see, this wedding beautiful and heart-felt.  Rose and Eli really wanted a casual wedding and wanted to include family and friends.  Having the celebration at Rose’s childhood home made it all that much more special.  The festivities began with Rose and Eli joining their guests for a cocktail hour, followed by the ceremony in the front yard.  A delicious dinner and dancing followed the ceremony inside.  Enjoy these photos!

View a slideshow of the images here:

Congratulations again to Rose and Eli!  Best wishes for a wonderful adventure ahead!

          Until next time,

          Helen
