Travel Through Photography: Palms Springs Edition

This past year has been one of reflection. With years of travel photographs in the archives, traveling through photographs of past vacations is a great way to not only get those prints organized, its also a great way to discover photographs that may make great wall art.

This past year has been a challenging one. For those of us who enjoy traveling to new places whether it is a first time visit, a visit to see loved ones, and/or capture the beauty of these places, we have had to be patient and put our travel plans on hold.

First up in the Travel Through Photography blog series is Palm Springs. Having visited this beautiful place several times over the last few years, its a pleasure to go through past images and share with you.

Photography is a form of time travel.

-Neil deGrasse Tyson

If you drive from the Los Angeles area towards Palm Springs on the 10 Freeway, you can’t miss the Cabazon dinosaurs, about 30 minutes outside of Palm Springs.

These neat steel figures are sure to captivate you are drive by. More historical information can be found on this Wikipedia site and if you plan to visit, check out their website for visiting information.

As you make your way towards the desert and Palm Springs, you see lots of wind turbines. This is a quick shot captured as a passenger.

Another prominent feature of Palm Springs are the palm trees and the surrounding mountains. I attempted to recreate an image I took in 2017 but I did not have the same lens and it was also a different time of day and month of the year. Its still neat to see the landscape. The landscape is so different and beautiful.

In February 2020 we included a trip up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The whole 10-minute trip up the cliffs of Chino Canyon is simply breathtaking with views of the valley below. Once you reach the top, you can walk trails and explore the wilderness of Mt. San Jacinto State Park.

Another stop in February 2020 was a visit to Joshua Tree National Park. The desert landscape is filled with interesting plants – the one you are most likely to notice is the Joshua Tree although there are plenty of smaller cacti and desert flora.

A must visit location within the park, if it is open, is Keys View. This location affords amazing mount views of the Santa Rosa Mountains, the Salton Sea, the San Jacinto Mountains as well as the San Andreas Fault.

Be well & safe travels!
